When considering what to pay a new employee we would encourage you to pay them the going rate for the job irrespective of age, taking into account their experience and trainee level. National Minimum Wage
This is the minimum amount you are required to pay an employee by law depending on age and whether or not the employee is on a recognised training programme such as an Apprenticeship.
- aged 16 and 17 - £3.68 per hour
- aged 18 - 20 - £4.98 per hour
- aged 21 and over - £6.08 per hour
- apprentices under 19, and those 19 and over who are in their first year of their apprenticeship- £2.60.
