When considering what to pay a new employee we would encourage you to pay them the going rate for the job irrespective of age, taking into account their experience and trainee level. National Minimum Wage
This is the minimum amount you are required to pay an employee by law depending on age and whether or not the employee is on a recognised training programme such as an apprenticeship.

*This rate is for apprentices under 19 or those in their first year. For those 19 or over and past their first year they get the rate that applies to their age.
