- How do I claim JSA?You can claim Job Seekers Allowance by speaking to your Connexions Adviser who will go through your options with you and then refer you to the Job Centre Plus team responsible for processing your claim. - Who is my PA?Young people aged 13-19 have access to a Connexions Personal Adviser (PA) who can give information, advice and guidance and arrange expert help if it is needed. If you are still at school ask your tutor. Your Personal Adviser will be someone who supported you in school from year 9 to 11 and who will also support you post 16 until you are 20. If you are still in doubt who your Adviser is, please contact your local Connexions Centre where you can get their contact details if required for on-going support.
- Where can I find a part time job?The best place to start is by looking in local newspapers - you may not qualify for the latest teaching post, but somewhere in a small corner there could be an advertisement for a waitress/waiter that is just right for you. Also keep an eye on notice boards in school, supermarkets and the Connexions centre. One place you may not have considered is the local Job centre - most have a section dedicated to jobs for young people. You need to be active. Let everyone (or at least your local bakery) know that you are ready and willing to earn a living. Don’t feel awkward – go into shops and restaurants and ask if there are any vacancies, if not, get them to put your name and details down for future reference.
- How do I arrange to see my Personal Adviser in school?Students can arrange to see a Connexions adviser in a number of ways: Simply knock on the Connexions office door located in your school during break or dinner and request an interview. The adviser will record your name and will arrange to see you. Request an interview via your form tutor, who will pass your name to the advisers in school, who will then arrange to see you. - Can I speak to my Connexions adviser during school holidays or when I’ve left school? Yes, you can speak to your adviser during school holidays or after you have left school by contacting your local Connexions centre. Numbers can be found on this site, or you can personally go into your local Connexions office to see your PA or to book an appointment.

- Where can I get a National Insurance Card/number from? 16 year olds applying for a National Insurance Number can ring the National Insurance Registration Helpline General Enquiries: 0845 915 7006 If parents are in receipt of Child Benefit Contact Child Benefit Helpline: 0845 302 1444 Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.00pm You will need to have your Child Benefit Number (on the Child Benefit Book). The number also appears on your bank statements when Child Benefit is received. If parents are not claiming Child Benefit National Insurance number can only be obtained when you are actually looking for a job or have started a job. When you start work you can contact Job Centre Plus 0845 600 0643 to arrange an appointment for them to issue you with a National Insurance Number. You will need to take your passport, visa, Birth Certificate (and any relevant letters from the Home Office)
