Learning difficulties or disabilities
Help for young people with learning difficulties or disabilities (LDD)
All young people will need to make plans for leaving school and most will need some help to do this. Young people with a learning difficulty or disability may need extra help to find out about all the options open to them after they leave school. Our specialist advisers can work specifically with students with additional needs and their parents to:
• Give you information about local and specialist college courses,work-based learning and employment opportunities.
• Put you in touch with social workers to discuss day services.
• Help you and your teenager decide the most suitable option when they leave school.
If your teenager has a statement of special educational needs they will be asked to come to a transition review in Year 9. This is a chance to start planning what they will do when they leave school and discuss what support they will need to achieve this. Our personal advisers will be able to help and support you during this process.
A Connexions personal adviser is linked to each special school.
To find out the name of yours, ask your school or contact your local Connexions centre.
