e-petition on Careers Advice for Young People
Paul Chubb of Careers England has posted a petition on the HM Government petition website. The petition asks the Department for Education to:
‘ensure that all young people up to age 19 can, if and when they choose, access face to face quality assured impartial careers advice and guidance - provided by professionally competent careers advisers who have knowledge and skills informed by the labour market’
If you can support this petition please do so. The e-petition can be completed at : http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/
If you enter “careers advice for young people” it will direct you straight to the petition.
16-19 Bursaries
The scheme helps 16 to19-year-olds continue in full-time education, where they might otherwise struggle for financial reasons. It is made up of two parts – a bursary of £1,200 a year to the most vulnerable young people and a discretionary fund for schools and colleges to distribute.
The Guide for schools and colleges from the YPLA (Young People's Learning Agency) sets out arrangements for the scheme and explains how learning providers should deal with:
- Eligibility and assessment of needs of new students
- Administration of the 'transitional scheme' for continuing students
- Payment arrangements either directly or ‘in kind’ to students
- Rules about what the fund can and cannot be used for
- Communicating with learners and their families
