Who can do Foundation Learning?

Anyone who is aged 16 to 18 and not already on a course, an apprenticeship or a job and have not done a similar programme before. In special situations people up to age 25 may be able to do it. For example if you have been ill or taken time out to have a baby.

Will I get paid?

You may get travel expenses and the costs of any childcare.  Your parents should be able to carry on claiming Child Benefit and usually Child Tax Credits for you.

You may also be able to apply for money from an Access or Hardship fund. There is a limited amount of cash available and it will go to the most needy students – ask your provider for details.

Where can I find out more?

Talk to your careers adviser in school, or if you’ve left school, visit the Connexions centre.
