Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)

Alongside college and university support the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) is also available to students to cover any extra costs involved in attending a higher education course because of a disability, dyslexia or medical condition. DSA is a grant, not a loan, so you won't have to pay it back. You can use DSA to pay for equipment, human support, general consumables (such as additional photocopying or printing), and additional transport costs.  To be eligible you must be taking a full-time, part-time or distance learning course in higher education, and qualify for a student loan (although you do not have to take one out, you can apply for DSA on its own). You will also need to provide evidence of your disability, dyslexia or medical condition such as a doctor’s letter or an up to date educational psychologist’s assessment which has been done at the age of 16 or older. Students can apply for DSAs through Student Finance England.
