National Citizen Service (NCS)
What is National Citizen Service?
National Citizen Service provides young people in year 11 and 12, from all backgrounds with the opportunity to take on new challenges, learn new skills and make a difference.
Already signed up? Get the May 2012 Newsletter (PDF) to help you get ready for NCS.
How will it work?
You will be part of a close-knit team of around 12 young people. Some of your team-mates could be your friends from school, but you will also be mixing with completely new people and making new friendships.
Your team will have dedicated support workers from Connexions Leicester Shire, who will support you throughout the programme.
In summer 2012 you will spend a week living away from home, in Staffordshire, with your team, taking on adventure challenges and developing leadership skills.
For week two you’ll be living back at home but working during the day with your team-mates to plan a social action project – something that will benefit your local community such as an environmental project, charity event or a service for local people.
After the second week, you will need to carry out your social action project part-time, for around 30 hours over a period of two or three weeks.
Finally, in autumn 2012 you’ll attend a prestigious celebration and graduation event with hundreds of other young people who have completed NCS and made their mark in society.
