Sometimes it's hard to know what steps to take to move on in work and life.  This is where the National Careers Service can help.

The National Careers Service is available free to every adult in England.  It offers:

  • free advice over the telephone from qualified careers advisers, seven days a week
  • a website offering online support including skills analysis and a CV builder

You can talk to a careers adviser on 0800 100 900 between 8am and 10pm, every day, or go online at: nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk 

You can also speak to an adviser in your own language. Simply call the telephone number next to your language from those listed here. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (Punjabi and Urdu 9am to 8pm).

A free online service giving you a secure single access point with tools to help you organise information about your learning and career.  It's tailored to match your own circumstances and needs.  By opening your account you can:

  • Update and store personal information such as your CV, results of a skills health check and course searches
  • Access your qualification results from your Personal Learning Record, and track what financial contributions have been made towards your learning
  • Manage the information you have gathered to help you make the right choices, share this with employers, learning providers and advisers
  • Receive regular careers updates based on your needs and situation
