Career Learning – Advice and Support Team (CLAS)
The 14-19 phase of education
Key Documents
The 14-19
Education and Skills white paper and the
implementation plan pave the way for exciting reforms to this phase
of education.
The 14-19 reforms will give all young people the opportunity to choose
a mix of learning which motivates, interests and challenges them, and
which gives them the knowledge, skills and attitude they need to succeed
in education, work, and life.
This increased choice will mean young people making career and progression
opportunities at an earlier stage. With career education now a statutory
requirement in years 7 and 8 as well as 9,10 and 11, we need to ensure
appropriate and engaging learning to equip young people with the skills,
knowledge and attitudes to select their pathway forward.

Diploma Gateway, visit the DCSF
website.
PSHEE
A key change relating to career education is its inclusion in the proposed
PSHEE framework. This is divided into two of the Every
Child Matters themes – Personal
Well-being and Economic Well-being. Career Education sits within the
latter with work-related learning and Enterprise education. Visit the
QCA site for details on range and content. The newly developed local personal
development curriculum site will be updated to reflect changes and
good practice as things move forward.
