Quality Frameworks for developing CEIAG

Overview

As the choices and progression pathways across 14-19 learning and beyond get increasingly complex the need for high quality CEIAG provision is ever more important. A number of national and regional frameworks can help learning organisations review provision and plan for development.

National Quality Standards for Young People’s Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)

The national quality standards have been written to support the development of consistently high quality and impartial information, advice and guidance services across the country.

They do this by providing a framework for planning, managing and reviewing information, advice and guidance services and are for use by:

  • learning providers (including schools, colleges and work based training providers),
  • external information, advice and guidance providers (i.e. Connexions services, voluntary and community service organisations and all other private organisations working under contract to the local authority).

It is expected that OfSTED will be looking at IAG provision during inspection. Follow this link to view the quality standards.

Supporting Choices

This national document is designed to assist individual institutions plan and develop activities, programmes and processes that support the choices made by young people.  It provides amplification on the 14-19 entitlement to Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) and a delivery model that describes the range of inputs, activities and experiences that young people should be entitled to access from ages 11-19+.  Follow this link to view the supporting choices document in full.

Code of Practice

The Code of Practice is a set of principles and practice for CEIAG for all learning organisations. It has been developed in partnership for Leicestershire and Leicester city. It is the first step in demonstrating commitment to improving provision for young people. Follow these links to view the Code of Practice and the self-evaluation pack.

Career Mark 5 – Quality Standards

Career Mark 5 is a development framework for CEIAG. An award process is available or the standards can be used to steer development. Visit this link to view the Career Mark 5.

Involving young people

Developing provision should always include the views of the end users – the young people. Quality frameworks advocate their involvement in planning and evaluation in CEIAG.

Hear by Right is a tried and tested standards framework for organisations across the statutory and voluntary sectors to assess and improve practice and policy on the active involvement of children and young people.
