Connexions Leicester Shire Youth Charter
What is the Charter?
-
The Charter is the ‘label on the can’ for the Connexions Service.
-
It explains what you can expect from the Service.
-
It sets out the Connexions Service and young people’s roles and responsibilities.
-
It is a good place to start to find out if you are getting a good deal from Connexions Leicester Shire.
Who wrote it?
-
Around 100 young people from around the city and the county helped to write it.
-
These young people came from, schools, colleges, youth groups, supported living centres and special schools.
-
They were aged between 12 and 24.
-
Members of Connexions Leicester Shire Partnership Board also contributed to it.
How were young people involved in producing the Charter?
-
The Young People’s Coordinator visited the groups of young people, wherever they were, to tell them about the new Connexions Service and ask them what would be important for the service to do for them.
-
The groups who did this were invited to an event at the National Space Centre to bring all their ideas together and agree the final draft version.
-
They came up with around 20 points that they thought were key for the Connexions Service.
-
The Young People’s Coordinator then took the Charter to a group of young people with Learning Difficulties and found that it was too long and too complicated for them to understand. So they worked to produce a simpler, clearer version of the Charter.
-
Connexions’ marketing team worked with groups of young people from all around the county to come up with the ‘Connexions Crew’ branding.
-
The first version of the Charter was produced in December 2002, nearly a year and a half after work started on it.
Is that it?
-
No
-
As the Connexions Leicester Shire Service develops and gets going, we need to work with lots more young people to make sure that the Charter really is the ‘label on the can’.
-
Keep your eyes open. We will be doing lots of events this year to find out just how good the Charter is and what we need to do to make it better.
Can I do something NOW?
-
Of course.
