The Law Says...
Parents and carers have to make sure that children of compulsory school age receive an appropriate education. You reach compulsory school age, the term following your 5th birthday and you are legally able to leave school on the last Friday in June of the school year during which you becomes 16.
If you don’t go to school when you should your parents or carers may be prosecuted by the Local Authority in the Magistrates' Court and fined up to £1,000. If it is proved that they knew you weren’t going to school and didn’t do anything to make sure you did go they could get a fine of up to £2,500 and/or a term in prison.
