A Brief History of Hip Hop image

Hip-Hop is believed to have originated in the Bronx in the late 1960s by a Jamaican Dj named Kool Herc. The Bronx is located north east of  Manhattan.

How did hip hop start?
Hip hop is believed to have originated in the Bronx by Kool Herc. He had a style of DJ-ing where he remembered rhymes and said them over instrumentals which were mainly but not always reggae.

Who started hip hop?
Some people argue over who started hip hop but the one person that  it always seems to come back to is the Jamaican Dj Kool Herc. Other names that may be mentioned when talking about who started hip hop include James Brown, Rappers Delight and Gill-Scott Heron. Artist that have made a big contribution to the hip hop industry
include NWA and Public Enemy. The younger generation may agree hip hop really exploded when Tu Pac Shakur released his first single.

How has hip hop changed?
In the early 1970s hip hop wasn't expected to do as well as it has done but with the success of hip hop many changes have been made. Hip hop has become very commercial as it has become more modern and the whole audience of hip hop has changed.

People say hip hop has lost its meaning as in the early 1970s a lot of MCs used hip hop to express themselves. Lots of MCs were from the black community and were suffering with things such as racism and weren't really allowed to speak out so they used hip hop as a voice. But over time hip hop has changed and many songs that reach the number 1 spot these days have no real message behind them. Rappers now tend to focus on the flashy life they live and have lost touch with reality.
