The Reload project
What is the project?
This project was set up to give young people skills in
different types of media. Young people on the project were given training in Graphic Design, Web Design, Photography or Research/Writing so they could create a magazine for
young people called ‘Reload’ and make an online version
to go onto the Connexions Leicester Shire website.
The graphic design
course taught them how to
construct pages for
print, including what looks good and what you should
avoid doing when
you design a page.
The web design sessions showed young people how to make a webpage using the latest software and included time to work on the webpage for the project, which was published on the Internet.
The photography course showed young people how to take a great photo and how the process doesn’t end as soon as you’ve clicked the button. The course also showed how much can be done with photos using computers to add effects, reduce/enlarge the size
and loads more.
In the research
and writing courses
young people learnt about
writing interesting
articles, how to
structure them,
what to look for
when you are
checking them
and other aspects
of being a great
journalist.
