
EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) - Proposed changes for 2008/9
The Government has said there will be changes to EMA during 2008. These changes are shown below.
EMA Guarantee
From September 2008 a learner will be eligible for EMA at the same amount for a period of up to three years. This is known as the EMA Guarantee.
Successful first time applicants will be guaranteed a minimum level of support even if their household income changes.
New e2e arrangements
All e2e learners aged 16 to 18 starting a programme of study on or after 30 June 2008 will receive the maximum £30 weekly EMA payment.
EMA Bonuses/Weekly Payments
e2e learners will receive £5 per week bonus payments. The learner and e2e provider will agree when these payments are received.
FE and sixth form students will receive a bonus of £100 in January and July of each year of learning.
