How have I coped with my current course or option?

The first term at university was very hectic and it was difficult to manage all the new pressures that I was facing; but with the help and support of the AccessAbility Centre I completed the first term and after that the second and third terms were much more manageable.

What have been the difficulties and how I have dealt with them?

Along with the general ‘new student’ worries I faced timetabling difficulties that I was not used to as my old school had been very understanding. After meeting with my department I was made aware of essential attendance classes. I managed to re-arrange some tutor groups times to better fit my needs and was given advice how to use the library and self-teach facilities to the best of my abilities.

Who and what has helped me to succeed?

The AccessAbility Centre helped me with issues in my hall such as getting me a quiet room and sorting out meal times. They also provided support when applying for my Disabled Students’ Allowance. Most of all it was comforting to know that if I did have any problems that there was somewhere to turn that would do all that they could to help.

Any advice for other students thinking of progressing into FE, HE or other related options?

My advice to other students wanting to apply to further education is to go for it! There’s a lot more help available than I was ever aware of and with this extra support there should be no reason why you won’t succeed if you want it enough. Make people aware of potential problems before they occur, that way, if they do then the support system is in place to help.
