





What is EMA?
EMA stands for Education Maintenance Allowance.
This is money that you might be able to get if you stay at school or go to college after Year 11.
You can also get EMA if you start a training course, for example an Apprenticeship or E2E.
When can you get EMA?
You can get EMA after you finish Year 11. You might be able to keep
getting EMA until you are 19 years old. Your Connexions personal adviser
will be able to tell you when you will be able to start getting EMA and when
your EMA will stop.
Can anyone get EMA?
No, your family income must be less
than £30,810 per year. Family
income means how much money your family gets in a year. If you are not sure
if you could get EMA you should talk to your Connexions personal adviser.
How much will I get?
How much you get will depend on your family income. Family income means
how much money your family gets in a year.
If your family income is less than £20,817 you will get £30
a week. If your family income is more than 20,817 a year you will get less
than £30 a week.
How do I apply?
Your parents will need to fill in an application form. You can get
an application form from your school, college Connexions personal adviser,
or by calling the EMA help line on 0800 121 8989.
