New PSHEE curriculum proposals
Overview
- The QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority) has proposed
that the following are taught within a new curriculum area:
- PSHE
- Work related learning
- Enterprise education
- Personal finance education
- Careers education
- The new curriculum area will be called Personal, Social, Health
and Economic Education (or PSHEE in short)
- There is also a complete review of both the Key Stage 3 and Key
Stage 4 curricula happening (originally separately but now jointly)
- This is supposed to produce a more flexible curriculum, more suited
to a wider range of students’ needs
- Personal, Learning and Thinking
skills (PLTS): 6 groups of skills essential to young people’s
success in learning, life and work
- Team working
- Self-managing
- Independent enquirer
- Reflective learning
- Creative thinking
- Effective participator
- PLTS to be incorporated into the new curriculum, including PSHEE
- There
was a consultation process, led by QCA, on the proposed programmes
of study for PSHEE, which finished on 30 April 2007
- PSHEE will be organised into 2 main strands:
- Personal well-being
- Economic well-being (this will eventually have a new name)
- “Economic well-being” will include Careers Education,
Work related learning, and Enterprise education
