What are feeds?

RSS feeds let you keep up to date with the latest info on websites without you having to take the trouble to visit them. Instead bits of your favourite sites come to you instead.

You probably already have some websites you visit regularly in your browser's "Favourites". However, it is not easy to tell when they've been updated without visiting each one and checking. Computers, though, can tell when sites have been updated, using a feed. This will automatically tell you when new content has been added to the site.

How is it used on www.connexions-leics.org?

Our new jobs and apprenticeship feed can keep you up to date with new jobs and apprenticeships as they are added to the site.

What can I do with feeds?

The first thing you need is something called a feed reader. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any new items that have been added. There are two types of news readers, those you access using a browser, and those which are downloadable applications. Below are some feed readers you might want to use.

Windows
Newz Crawler

FeedReader
RSSOwl

Mac OS X

Newsfire
NetNewsWire

Web

Bloglines
FeedZilla
My Yahoo!

Browser

Mozilla
Firefox

Google

Once you have a feed reader you can start subscribing to our new jobs and apprenticeships feed. Subscribing to a feed works differently for different readers. But you can usually copy the address of the our new jobs and apprenticeships feed from your browser's address bar and paste this into your reader. Most readers will have specific help sections for their own products so have a look at this if you're having problems.

Adding our feed to your website

If you have your own website you can display our new jobs and apprenticeships on your site using our RSS feed. We would encourage you to add the our feed to your site but it must be attributed to Connexions Leicester Shire. The attribution text should read 'Connexions Leicester Shire' or 'www.connexions-leics.org/opportunities', you may not use our logo without obtaining our permission.

We reserve the right to prevent the distribution of Connexions Leicester Shire content and Connexions Leicester Shire does not accept any liability for its feeds. There are some sites which are excluded from using our feeds, click here to see a list of excluded websites.
