Envelope for GCSE Results
The Learning & Skills Council (LSC) has produced a GCSE envelope for
use in schools. The A5 GCSE envelope includes a leaflet that explains about
options and choices after young people get their GCSEs including information
about Apprenticeships, A levels and Diplomas and EMA.
Teachers
have been encouraged to get young people to put their addresses onto the
envelope before Easter, to enable them be used in the Summer for their GCSE

Careers Teacher of the Year 2007
Paula Staley, assistant head teacher at Beaumont Leys school in Leicester,
has been named Careers Teacher of the Year 2007.
She is shown accepting the national award at the Institute of Careers Guidance
conference in Solihull.
Paula said: “This award reflects all the hard work that the school
undertakes to ensure that students continue in education, employment
or training when they leave us.”
Connexions Leicester Shire staff have
supported the development of career education, information and guidance
at the school and have worked with school staff to help them achieve
the Career Mark quality award.

The 7th Annual African Caribbean Achievement Awards
This event took place on Saturday 22nd December, 2007 at the African Caribbean
Centre in Leicester. It was hosted by author and television presenter Dr
Robert Beckford and attended by celebrity guest Jenni Trent Hughes
(life coach specialising in relationship and family issues).
8 awards were presented this year, under different categories, and Connexions
Leicester Shire sponsored the Young Persons Award.
Eden Francis won our award for excelling as an international discus thrower
and shot putter. She is the current holder of the national age group
records and is being looked at for the 2012 Olympic games.

New Parks Integrated Service Hub
The launch of the New Parks Integrated Service Hub took place on Thursday
6th December.
It has been set up to improve the support available to local
young people and their families that is provided by a range of organisations
including Connexions Leicester Shire.
Connexions has been at the heart of the Hub’s development and the
launch included displays of our services and the active involvement of a
number of our staff.
11 Million Takeover Day
More than 5000 children and young people took over 400 organisations
across England for 11 MILLION Takeover Day on Friday November 23.
The event was a national initiative to raise the profile of young people
and celebrate their importance in society.
Connexions Leicester Shire was involved and a young person, Jess Evans,
spent the day work shadowing Chief Executive Rosemary Beard as part of
a visit by delegates from the Department for Children, Schools and
Families which toured local schools and projects.
