Post 16 Transport - Questions and Answers

What if I live near the border of the county and want to attend a college outside the county or if I would prefer to study at a college that is further away, can I still claim?

A travel pass will normally be issued for you to attend your closest FE college. (If you live in Leicestershire the Post 16 Transport Access Fund may be able to help)

It’s quicker by rail but cheaper by bus, will I get subsidised for rail travel?

Help is given for the cheapest mode of transport. If the journey is exceptionally long you might get help. If you live in Leicestershire call: 0116 265 7055 for more info.

Can I get help with extra costs? (i.e. books, equipment, childcare).
Ask at your school or FE College. At the moment there is help available towards these costs only in certain circumstances.

What would I do about travel if I want to take part in after hours activities?
Service travel passes can be used up to 10 p.m. For contract bus passes help maybe be available if you live in Leicestershire via the Post 16 Transport Access Fund.

Can I use the pass at weekends and holidays?
Your travel pass is only for use during term time (unless otherwise stated) Monday-Friday with one return journey per day.
